Q: What is special about corten steel?
A: Corten resists the corrosive effects of rain, snow, ice, fog, and other meteorological conditions by forming a coating of dark brown oxidation over the metal, which inhibits deeper penetration and negates the need for painting and costly rust-prevention maintenance over the years.
Q: What is the difference between steel and corten steel?
A: Corten has a slightly lighter more orange appearance largely due to the copper content but both mild steel and Corten develop the lovely warm, varied brown tones. Your edging will arrive largely un weathered, mild steel starts off slightly darker whereas Corten will be a bit more metallic and shiny.
Q: Why is it called Corten?
A: The word corten refers to the two distinguishing properties of the steel: (COR) corrosion resistance and (TEN) tensile strength.
